You can prevent a bed bug infestation by following a few simple steps....
Worried about bed bugs?
There’s a lot of information on the news at the moment about bed bugs and how there is reported to be an infestation in certain areas of the country. If you’re worried, here are a few tips on how to prevent you inadvertently bringing an infestation into your home:
1. Bed bugs love clutter so, if your bedroom has a lot of stuff in it (and particularly under the bed) then consider how you can reduce this. The clearer and cleaner the bedroom is, the less chance you have of an infestation.
2. Hoover regularly which means at a minimum of 2-3times a week and, if you can, every day. Pay particular attention to nooks in your mattress and soft furnishings as this is where bed bugs love to live and to lay eggs. They thrive in the dark, in gaps where they can’t be found or seen.
3. Empty the hoover (or hoover bag) immediately into the outside bin once you have finished hoovering. Do not just leave them in the hoover or empty them into the kitchen bin and this will cause them to spread.
4. Wash you bedding regularly and on a hot cycle; anything above 60 degrees is ideal.
If you find bedbugs, don’t panic but fully strip your bed, wash all bedding, hoover your mattress and your bedroom really thoroughly and don’t forget to get your duvet cleaned at a high temperature too.
